Two MIGAS apprentices have been awarded top honours at the 2024 TAFE Queensland - SkillsTech CSQ Apprentice Awards.
Harry Steptoe, hosted by Clarke Constructions, was named the TradeTools Carpentry Apprentice of the Year, and Lachlan Kemble, hosted by Shephard Transport Equipment, took home the Weld Australia Engineering and Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year award.
"Harry and Lachlan are both incredibly deserving of recognition for the effort an ingenuity they’ve demonstrated through their apprenticeships training,” said MIGAS Chief Executive, David Hoey.
"Their achievements are a reflection of their hard work, the quality of training provided by TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, and the invaluable support of their host companies."
Abraham Irwin, hosted by Origin Energy, was also named a finalist in the Yokogawa Instrumentation Apprentice of the Year category.
“Abraham should feel very proud to have been shortlisted as a finalist in this strongly contested category, and I hope it lights a fire in him to pursue the accolades he’s equally deserving of,” Mr Hoey said.
The awards highlight the commitment of MIGAS to fostering excellence in vocational education and training. Each finalist demonstrated exceptional skills and work ethic throughout their apprenticeships, setting high standards in their respective fields.
MIGAS extends its gratitude to TAFE Queensland for their crucial role in training and supporting the apprentices throughout their journey. Special recognition is also given to host companies, Clarke Constructions and Shephard Transport Equipment, for their instrumental role in shaping these young tradesmen into award-winning skilled tradespeople.
"These awards are not just a recognition of Harry and Lachlan's current achievements, but also a promising indicator of their bright futures in the trades," Mr Hoey said.
"We look forward to seeing how they will continue to excel and contribute to their respective industries."
The success of Harry and Lachlan at the TAFE Queensland - SkillsTech CSQ Apprentice Awards underscores the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between group training organisations, educational institutions, and industry partners in developing skilled tradespeople for Australia's workforce.
