National Apprenticeship Week Drives Career Futures

MIGAS Boilermaker Apprentices celebrating National Apprenticeship Week at host company Civmec.
As National Apprenticeship Week Australia (NAWA) approaches from 10 to 16 February 2025, it’s time to shine a spotlight on the incredible journeys of apprentices across our nation.
Apprenticeships are far more than just a career starting point – they’re a launchpad for professional evolution.
This year’s NAWA theme, Skills in Motion, perfectly encapsulates the dynamic and transformative nature of apprenticeships in Australia. It challenges the outdated notion that trades are static or limited.
In reality, modern apprenticeships are vibrant pathways of continuous learning, adaptation, and personal development.
Trades today are sophisticated, technology-driven careers that demand creativity, problem-solving, and cutting-edge technical skills. From renewable energy installations to advanced manufacturing and digital technologies, apprentices are often at the forefront of industry innovation.
How to Celebrate and Support Your Apprentices
For business and industry, investing in apprentices and trainees is investing in the future. National Apprenticeship Week is the perfect time to get behind your apprentices and recognise the important role they play.
Businesses can make a meaningful impact during National Apprenticeship Week by:
- Recognising apprentice and trainee achievements publicly
- Sharing apprentice success stories on social media
- Hosting workplace events that highlight the value of apprenticeships
MIGAS’s annual Give a Shout campaign during National Apprenticeship Week is just one way to congratulate your apprentice workforce. You could:
1. Give an apprentice or trainee at your workplace a shout-out. Good old-fashioned encouragement goes a very long way. Whether it’s a toolbox talk, pre-start huddle or smoko, point out their efforts.
2. Shout them a coldie or coffee at knock-off. Make time for a chat to share some of your experiences or advice about the job over a brew. It helps apprentices feel part of the team and perform better.
3. Highlight tradie mental health by wearing your Trademutt shirt. Trademutt and TIACS to provide mental health support to apprentices and trainees at the start of their working life. Wearing your brightly coloured PPE to show your support during NAWA help raise awareness to this important issue.
