This Community Work Skills program offers tailored training for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

You’ll be supported at each step of the nine-week Program to develop work-ready skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

About the Program

The First Nations Futures: Employment Pathways Program will help you build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workforce.

Designed for First Nations peoples, this Program includes:

  • Completion of a nationally recognised qualification
  • Mentoring and guidance from local Indigenous leaders
  • The chance to meet with local employers through Industry Immersion Days
  • Access to additional training to enhance your job readiness and future employment prospects

Job Readiness Training

Provider: TAFE Queensland, Toowoomba Campus
Training: Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) course to help you develop essential workplace skills

Nationally Recognised Qualification

Provider: EDB Training
Training: Develop industry and job specific skills by completing a TLI20421 Certificate II in Supply Chain Operations

Industry Tickets & Licenses

Gain additional certifications such as a White Card (Construction), Forklift licence, and Elevated Work Platform training.

Program Inclusions

  • Preparing for the Program
    +

    Each participant will join a discussion to support you prepare for participation in the Program. We take the time to learn more about you, how we can support you and give you the best opportunity to successfully complete the Program and transition into employment.

    During this preparation stage, we will host weekly face-to-face workshops. These sessions will preview the program, introduce you to your First Nations mentor, focus on skills development, and give you the opportunity to meet potential employers.

  • First Nations Mentor Support
    +

    You will be paired with a First Nations mentor from Program partners Mandana or Sarina Russo Group.

    Your mentor will support you from the start of the program until you transition into employment, ensuring you receive guidance and support from someone who can appreciate your perspective and journey.

  • Skills for Education and Employment
    +

    The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program is designed to help you develop essential skills needed for the workforce. This includes improving your language, literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.

    Delivered by TAFE Queensland, the SEE Program provides a strong foundation that prepares you for further training and employment opportunities.

  • Job Skills Training

    The TLI2042 Certificate II in Supply Chain Operations delivered by EDB Training will equip you with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to begin a career in supply chain and warehousing.

    This course will equip you with skills that can be used in other workplaces and industries even if you do not wish to pursue a career in warehousing.

  • Job Placement Support

    The First Nations Futures Program includes comprehensive job placement support to help you transition smoothly into the workforce.

    This support covers career guidance, resume and interview preparation, employer connections, and workplace readiness.

Peter Jackson - Managing Director, Mandana

Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson is a descendant of the Mandandanji and Gunggarri Traditional Custodians from the Roma and Mitchell areas of Southwest QLD.

Peter’s passion is to facilitate meaningful employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

With over thirty years of professional engagement with First Nations communities and a resident of the Western Downs, Peter has honed his expertise in local Indigenous culture, mentoring, and recruitment.

Violet Geesu - Indigenous Services Manager, Sarina Russo

Violet Geesu

Violet Geesu is a proud Indigenous woman, her Father is Meriam, (Murray Island) Eastern Torres Straits, with her Mum (Grandmother) Darumbal Country and Dad (Grandfather) Vanuatu, Tanna Island.

Violet has had the opportunity to work in the areas of Employment, Apprenticeship Services, Training, Education, as well as the Performing Arts within remote, regional, and urban First Nations communities in Australia.
